the BEST Baked Ziti


This is by far, the best pasta dish I have ever made. I’ve tried a lot of pasta recipes – and this one has topped them all so far. It’s tomatoey, but not too much – full of creamy ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, and the pasta is actually cooked in the sauce and then finished off in the oven for that melty creamy goodness. My husband LOVED this recipe – calling it one of my best yet! I always love when I get that response. Usually I’m not a huge fan of red sauce pastas, but I loved this one too. The only drawback my husband had was that this is a meatless recipe – but it could easily be added in if meat is a must. The only thing missing from my menu when I made this was a big crusty loaf of bread.. Try it out and see what you think – I can almost guarantee your family will love it just as much as mine did!!   • 8 oz ziti or similar pasta
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 cups crushed tomatoes with juice
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning (oregano, basil and thyme)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • salt, black pepper
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella, cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 small egg
