Southern Sweet Potato Casserole


Hello friends! I found the most delicious sweet potato casserole recipe – and here it is! My mom makes the *best* sweet potato casserole and I found a recipe that tastes exactly like it!! It’s pretty sweet, almost dessert – like, not a weekly side dish but so scrumptious and a real treat 🙂 Give it a try and let me know what you think!



Serves 4 or 5


Filling –

  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Topping –

  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • 3 tablespoons of softened butter




  • Bake your sweet potatoes at 400 degrees for about an hour until soft
  • Peel and place potato in a large bowl, when cooled, add all filling ingredients to the potatoes
  • Mash and mix well, spread in 9×9 baking dish, set aside
  • Mix all topping ingredients in a small bowl until crumbly
  • Top the potato mixture with the topping
  • Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees on middle rack
  • Enjoy!
