Crispy Hot Wings


We love wings around here. I’ve never made just hot wings before, usually I don’t really prefer them when I can have a different flavor, but we decided to give it a try. They turned out really good but also really HOT – I’ll warn you now. If you don’t do spicy, this isn’t the recipe for you. If you do, you’ll love it! Serves 2


  • 12 chicken wings

Dry rub –

  • 2 tablespoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder


  • 1/2 cup of franks Red Hot or whatever hot sauce you prefer
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of honey



  • Combine all dry rub ingredients
  • Place the split wings into a ziploc bag with some olive oil, then add the spice rub
  • Shake well until the wings are well coated
  • Cover a sheet pan with foil, then place a cooking rack on top of the pan
  • Place the wings on the rack and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, then an additional 15 minutes at 450 degrees
  • Simmer all sauce ingredients in a saucepan for about ten minutes
  • When wings are done, toss in the sauce, then return to oven and broil until slightly charred
