Sweet and Sour Chicken

Merry Christmas Eve! The night before last we had this yummy, easy sweet and sour chicken for dinner! It was delicious, not quite like the takeout version – but still really good, just different! Hope you enjoy!


For the sauce:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

For the chicken:

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of cornstarch


  • Chop up chicken into bite sized pieces
  • Place in bowl, add the egg and soy sauce
  • Combine all sauce ingredients and stir well, simmer on stove top for about 15 minutes until thickened
  • Set aside
  • Add the flour and cornstarch to the chicken, stir together to form a breading
  • Fry in a small amount of oil until done, place on paper towel lined plate
  • When all the chicken is done, toss together with the sauce in a bowl and serve!
