General Tso’s Chicken

Another yummy Chinese chicken recipe for you! I used to get General Tso’s Chicken take out, now I don’t because the last few times I got it I couldn’t finish it because it was just too spicy… This chicken is not that spicy. It has some spice, but not so much that it can’t be eaten. However, if you want it spicier, just add more hot sauce or red pepper flakes or even some cayenne if that’s what you’d like! I would like mine a little spicier than this recipe, but my husband can’t eat a lot of spice at night – too much heartburn. Overall though it turned out very delicious, moist chicken and a great sauce to go with it! Hope you enjoy.

For the chicken:

  • 2 breasts or 6 chicken tenderloins – cut into bite size pieces
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 egg
  • Green onions for garnish

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of hot sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon of red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  1. Add the chicken, egg and soy sauce together in a bowl, cover and marinate for 2 hours
  2. Mix all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside
  3. When the chicken is ready, mix together the flour and cornstarch and add to the chicken
  4. Fry the chicken in batches in a small amount of oil at 375 degrees until done
  5. Remove the chicken onto a paper towel lined plate
  6. Add the sauce to a skillet over medium high heat
  7. When it begins to bubble, add the chicken pieces and coat well with the sauce
  8. Remove from heat and enjoy!

We loved this recipe and hope you do to!

Happy baking!
